Henchmen

So, I kind of did this in my 2008 NaNoWriMo, but it didn't end up the way I had been originally thinking of it.

The idea is basically an adventuring party, like your standard D&D party - fighters, mages, all that jazz... and then their hirelings - you know, the people they pay to take care of their horses, hold torches, all of that.

The premise hinges on that while the adventurers are down in the abandoned lairs and dungeons looking for treasure, the henchmen end up doing all the save-the-world hero kind of stuff. Slaying the dragons, banishing the demons, saving the princesses. And of course all their work would get credited to the adventurers.

Similar to the idea I had about a superhero who's really a washed-up alcoholic, but his mild-mannered secretary, who also secretly has superpowers, actually gets done all the things people think he does.

I think the henchmen idea could be worked out neatly in a tv series, but since one of the main characters would be what Pratchett calls a "woman of negotiable affection," probably not on broadcast. Then again, if you consider the soaps...

I wonder if I could hire some larpers and get it done on public television. >.>
