Database Sites

Wowhead:  A repository of items, quests, spells, NPCs and other information.  The search is spelling-dependent, but the user-submitted comments on items or quests can be extremely helpful.  Includes basic strategies for many raid and dungeon bosses.  Includes a transmogrification set gallery.

Thottbot:  Similar to Wowhead, but with a different interface.

Allakhazam:  Also similar to Wowhead, but with a different interface.

Wowpedia:  A wiki-based encyclopedia of WoW lore, including people, places, histories, and items, as well as game mechanics information.

Wowwiki:  An older wiki, which Wowpedia has, to some degree, replaced; updating is hit or miss.

Battle.net:  Blizzard's official site, including blogs, the Armory (character search), and other official game information.

Moon Guard Wiki:  A wiki created for Moon Guard, a role-playing server, including information useful both to general role-playing and to the Moon Guard community.

Drafts

I write a lot of stuff that I never finish, or that I never come back to before it becomes outdated or irrelevant. So here's a sample of stuff I've thought about putting here, or started, and didn't actually ever get to press:

• An abbreviations guide: All those dungeons and such that you see fly by in Trade chat and don't know what they mean for three or four months - LBRS, Strat, ICC, and so forth. With "how do I get there?" and "when can I run that?"
• "Casualcore Raiding": About a casual guild doing progression raiding. I may come back to this when our raiding starts up again.
• How do I get back to Pit of Saron from the graveyard?: With screen shots.
• How do I find x, y, and/or z in Cataclysm?: Derailed by buying a house.

There's other stuff - a Cataclysm hunter leveling guide, stuff like that. Once we get moved and all that, I'll see what questions I see recurring in Trade and General chats and maybe put some of that together. (Face it: I'm a librarian. I compulsively answer questions.)

Random gaming stuff

I pre-ordered Wrath of the Lich King yesterday. I didn't do it so much because I wanted to pre-order, but because Amazon briefly had the Collecter's Edition available again, and the soundtrack is included, and is supposed to be awesome. (Thanks, WoW Insider, for the heads-up on the CE!)

So on the way home from work today I stopped to get milk and deli meat. As I was walking through the door and heading towards the deli, I hear, "Manager to the deli department," and a couple other deli related calls over the PA. As I get closer to the deli, an employee from the neighboring bakery department is walking over to the deli department back room, and he's like, "Oh, shit!"

So I'm thinking maybe someone cut themself or something, and that now's a bad time to be going to the deli, so I head over to get milk, on the other end of the store. About when I get to the meat cases, there's another PA announcement, this time, "Attention, customers, there's a fire in the store, please leave your items where they are and evacuate the store." So since I haven't actually gotten anything yet, I turn and start up the aisle to leave the store. Just about when I get to the front of the store, they cancel the evacuation. So I go back an get the milk and head back over to the deli.

Apparently a fryer had caught on fire and it was easily put out, but since the deli manager panicked and called in the fire to customer service, the fire department got called. In the middle of slicing my meat, the guy had to go show the police and the fireman where the problem had been. So by the time I finish checking out, there's a firetruck, a ladder truck, the fire chief, and several police vehicles outside the front of the store. This has been an interesting week. :P

It left behind a pile of feathers and blood on the snow in our yard.

Miscellanies

Well, the Tilex appears to at least help keep the shower from accumulating new stuff.  I'll probably try to scrub off some of the older stuff between bottles.

I kept hearing "decalcification" at the dentist, so I'm trying to get back to my quart-of-milk-a-day habit I had in high school and use the fluoride rinse regularly.  Cutting back on the soda would probably help, too...

Vacation

Oh. My. God.

Ok, so my credit card company first tried to sell me the whole "identity theft protection" thing over a year ago.  They woke me up when they called me, but I was coherent enough to keep telling them I didn't want them tacking on extra monthly charges.  Then I didn't hear about it again for a while, probably because they were bought out by another company.

Now they're calling practically monthly.  Every time I tell them I don't want it, and that they've already called me about it, they say they'll make a note of that.  Every month I get a new call center.

So I'm thinking, ok, wtf?  They're my only credit card.  They keep upping my credit limit, probably because I don't use it much and they're trying to get me to.  So why would they keep harassing me with these credit protection/identity theft protection things when, eventually, it's most likely to just push me to cancel the damned card entirely just to get them to stop calling?  My husband never gets calls from his credit card company over stuff like this.

Yay, fireworks

We went to one of the local fireworks shows this weekend - the state ones are generally by the Capitol on the 4th, but several of the municipalities have their own shows on the weekends around it. This one was pretty good; I don't generally like ground shows, but the one they had in the finale built up into it very well.

In other news, this is also Day 1 of testing Tilex in our shower.

Whee, onigiri

I got a Japanese cookbook at Border's recently for about $4, and the first thing I've tried making out of it was onigiri. This led to the acquisition of a rice cooker to make the process easier.  The one I got works pretty well, and it's not a bad size for two people.  (Being only $15 was also nice.)

The first onigiri we had seasoned ground beef filling in - basically ground beef browned with some onion and seasoned salt.  The next time I did some with diced mushrooms sauteed in soy sauce (surprisingly good) and some with salted salmon, which were okay, but, well, I'm a mushroom lover.  I've got some bulk sausage in the freezer to try for the third batch.

The miso soup I made with the first ones didn't turn out as well as I wanted, but I'm having trouble getting my hands on bonito.  Since I want some more pocky, though, it's a good excuse to hit up an Asian grocery; I know we have a couple around here.

And, OMG, the local grocery has started carrying hazelnut-chocolate pocky!  It may surpass strawberry as my favorite flavor (of the, ahem, four I've tried).

Shavers

So I got a Panasonic wet/dry electric shaver with some money I was given for graduation. I only paid $20 for it, and I figure, I'm using Schick disposables that are roughly $1 apiece and going through more than 20 of those a year, so I may as well try to cut down on the disposables I use. It works pretty well; I was initially worried about how it would handle things like my knees, but it's done okay.

Worn out

We had a barbecue (grilled hamburgers & hotdogs) with our gaming friends today at a park.  We spent about four hours there, so I'm glad I put on sunscreen before we went. :P  I also made oatmeal scotchies for it, which seem to go over well everywhere I take them.  Also found out that butter frosting will, um, melt off cake if left in the sun. >.>  I had taken the 3 pieces of cake that I had to take out of my 9x13 pan to make the cookies, and the 3rd piece apparently got a bit warm.  I also found out that the kite I have apparently isn't that good.  I think I need a heavier tail for it.

Tasty!

So one of the Chinese buffets up here has what they call "sweet bean buns."  They're basically sweet buns with custard filling.  They're heavenly when they're hot.  The pastry is whitish, sponge-cake like.  I think they're steamed.

Tomorrow...

is the Preakness.  It is also graduation.  I'm hoping I don't have to go confiscate a TV on campus so I don't miss it. >.>

Summer...

So, I'm done at the library again for the summer, till August.  I need to find a summer job. >.<  We also want to find a house this summer, so I really need to be making some money.  It wouldn't hurt if I picked up something permanent part-time, to go with the library job.

I'm not particularly fond of summer.  I don't take heat well.  I've also been on a school-year schedule for... uh... a long time. >.>  So I'm used to summers off, even though I need to not be anymore.

Erg...

It somehow figures that as soon as school is done, I get a cold.  I actually felt my head congesting as I was writing my last paper (between 4 and 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday).  My nose is a faucet.  A leaky faucet.
