I saw a peregrine falcon today! In our yard!
I'd gone out to the eye doctor today to get new glasses, since mine are 4 years old, and the right eye has been a little blurry, and when I got home and was coming up the steps, there was a somewhat larger bird than usual in the yard below the bird feeders. I'm looking at it thinking, that's not a pigeon. Then I realize, that's a raptor beak.
The only thing of its color and size in our region is the peregrine, so I'm fairly sure that's what it was (medium/dark grey, bigger than a pigeon, but not huge).
Anyway, it flew away as I continued up the steps, and I realized it had been standing in a pile of feathers and blood in the snow on our yard. (Really, I prefer that to the dead baby bunny the neighbors' cat left in front of their door a year or so ago.)
